Extraordinary
control: balancing a glass on the edge of the card
The magic trick
When a magician shows this trick to the audience, the audience will
see a magician place an empty drinking glass on the edge of a single
playing card. The glass will not fall down but instead will stand
steadily on the edge of the card without any support from the magician.
How to perform this trick
Before the glass is placed on the edge of the card, the magician
shows the glass and the playing card to the audience to prove that
there is nothing unusual with them. Then the magician stands the
card on the table and places the glass on the top edge of the card.
After that the magician takes his hands of the glass and the card.
The secret
In order to perform the trick successfully, the magician will need
to take a second playing card, cut it in half and tape it to the
other side of the first playing card. This way the card looks like
a normal single playing card to the audience but during the trick
the half of the second card is positioned at an angle of 90 degrees
against the first card. This provides enough support to place a
glass on the card and stabilize it.
