Simple physics: a cup is balanced on a piece of paper

The magic trick

The magician makes a bet with someone in the audience. The magician tells the audience that he will be able to balance one of the three cups on top of a normal piece of paper, which is placed on top of the other two cups. Since audience will not believe the magician, someone will make this bet and the magician, to the surprise of the audience, will perform the trick.

How to perform this trick

The magician will show that it is not possible to balance the cup on the piece of paper if it is simply placed on the top of two cups the way it is. He then folds the list of paper several times and places the folded list on the top of the two cups and the third cup on top of the list. The third cup does not fall down.

The secret

The magician can perform this trick easily because the folded list of paper will provide enough stability to hold the third cup. The cup needs to be placed on the top edges of the folded list very carefully and slowly.
